Solari named prexy of Locarno festival

Fest director position still open

LOCARNO — Marco Solari has been elected prez of the Locarno Intl. Film Fest, succeeding Giuseppe Buffi, who died in July in a car accident.

Solari, 56, former head of tourism in the canton of Ticino in the south of Switzerland, is a veepee at Ringier AG, the biggest publishing house in Switzerland. He will stay at Ringier AG while simultaneously holding his post at the competitive Swiss festival.

Solari first has to find a new fest director. Former fest topper Marco Muller has not renewed his contract, which expires at the end of this month. Next year, the 54th Locarno event will run Aug. 2-12.
