‘Rum’ tops Carib Fest

Latam helmers to attend 5th annual event

BOGOTA — Screening recent cinema from Colombia, Venezuela and the Caribbean region, the fifth annual Caribbean Film Fest runs today through Wednesday in the Colombian coastal city of Barranquilla.

The showcase is Colombia’s second most important after the Cartagena fest.

Topping the bill is Maria Escobedo’s Cuban-American themed “Rum and Coke.” Directors such as Pericles Mejia (Dominican Republic), Solveig Hoogesteijn (Venezuela), Arturo Soto (Cuba), Cristian Lara (Guadeloupe) and Escobedo (U.S.) are expected to attend.

Colombia’s Ministry of Culture is one of the main sponsors of the event.
