Phil Alden Robinson (“Field of Dreams”) is in final negotiations to direct Paramount Pictures’ “The Sum of All Fears,” a thriller based on the 1992 Tom Clancy bestseller, to which Ben Affleck is attached.
Dan Pyne is rewriting the script, long in development at Paramount, from an original adaptation by Akiva Goldsman.
Harrison Ford had been attached to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan but backed out, at which point Affleck stepped in and rewriting commenced. Helmer Phillip Noyce had been circling but no deal was made.
Robinson’s directing credits include “Sneakers” and “In the Mood.”
