Joins Law, Osment, O'Connor in robot yarn
Sam Robards will join Jude Law, Haley Joel Osment and Frances O’Connor in Steven Spielberg’s “A.I.,” which is slated to start shooting this fall for a summer 2001 release.
“A.I.” is set in a distant future where robots with artificial intelligence populate Earth after the polar icecaps have melted, leaving New York underwater. Robards will play the father of Osment and the husband of O’Connor.
“A.I.” is exec produced by Jan Harlan, Kubrick’s brother-in-law, and DreamWorks’ Walter Parkes. Kathleen Kennedy and Bonnie Curtis will produce with Spielberg. Warner Bros. will release “A.I.” domestically, while DreamWorks will handle international distribution.
Robards, who most recently appeared in “American Beauty,” will next appear in Campbell Scott’s “Hamlet” and in the Miramax production “Bounce,” directed by Don Roos. He is repped by the Gersh Agency and Rogbert-Roberts-Rugolo Mgmt.
