BERLIN– Infamous German helmer Leni Riefenstahl is in a German hospital after a helicopter crash in Sudan left her with two broken ribs.
The 97-year-old filmmaker, who was adored by Adolf Hitler, was flying with her 11-member film crew on Tuesday when the helicopter went down in the Nuba mountains in central Sudan. Riefenstahl and two members of her film crew were then flown to Munich for medical treatment.
Riefenstahl is the subject of a film being developed by Jodie Foster’s Egg Pictures, with Foster set to play Riefenstahl. German production outfit Odeon is also working on a separate project about the director, who gained international fame and notoriety for her Nazi-era documentary films, including 1934’s “Triumph of the Will” and “Olympia” from 1936.
