Spielberg to receive lifetime achievement honor
The Directors Guild of America has announced that Carl Reiner will serve as emcee and Francis Ford Coppola will present the DGA’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Steven Spielberg at the 52nd annual DGA Awards on Saturday.
Coppola, who won DGA Awards for “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II,” received the organization’s D.W. Griffith Liftetime Achievement Award in 1998. The guild decided last year to retire Griffith’s name from the honor because of his fostering of racial stereotypes in “Birth of a Nation.”
Spielberg is the 29th recipient of the award. Presenters for the awards, to be held at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, include Annette Bening, Lorraine Bracco, Martha Coolidge, Russell Crowe, Ted Danson, Cameron Diaz, Michael Clarke Duncan, Richard Farnsworth, Tobey Maguire, Cheech Marin, Don Ohlmeyer, Haley Joel Osment, David Hyde Pierce, Chloe Sevigny, Martin Sheen, Tritia Toyota and Blair Underwood.
