Helmer Alex Proyas is attached to helm and develop the supernatural suspenser “Enoch’s Portal.”
Proyas (“The Crow,” “Dark City”) will develop the pic from the Champion Press novel by A.W. Hill of the same name, due out this fall.
Storyline centers on an American hired by a mogul to extricate his young wife from an Eastern European cult that has unlocked a powerful medieval secret of alchemy. The group has built a contraption using 14th century science, and the protagonist has three days to retrieve the wife before her flesh is reduced to immaterial spirit.
Pic will be produced by Cotty Chubb and Sean Daniel of the Par-based Alphaville Prods. and by Jonathan Dana and Topher Dow.
Ocean Palm Literary principals Ron Martino and Greg Anderson, who initially acquired the rights to “Portal,” will co-produce and Alphaville’s Jim Jacks will handle exec producing chores.
Proyas is repped by ICM; Martino and Anderson, the novel and Jonathan Dana were all repped by the Gersh Agency and by Linda Lichter at Lichter, Grossman & Nichols.
