JoBeth Williams is set to topline PBS’ “The Ponder Heart,” based on the Eudora Welty novel. Williams, who garnered an Academy Award nom for her short-film directing debut “On Hope,” will also helm the indie “Winona’s Web.” She’s repped by the Gersh Agency and managed by John Carrabino.

Dash Mihok (“The Thin Red Line”) has been tapped for “Untitled Nancy P. Project.” The Fox pilot, penned by Nancy Pimental, will be produced in association with NBC Studios. Mihok joins George Clooney in helmer Wolfgang Petersen’s feature “The Perfect Storm.” He’s repped by Endeavor and Handprint Entertainment.

Alex Meneses (“Selena”) and Nicholas Gonzales (Lifetime’s “Little Assassin”) will join Edward James Olmos and Ruben Blades in the indie feature “Sirena the Little Mermaid.” Meneses has also been tapped for the ABC pilot “Wilder Days” and will soon be seen in Universal’s “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.” Gonzales’ Showtime series “Resurrection Boulevard” has been picked up for 22 episodes.

Meneses is repped by Abrams Artists and Imparato Knight Fay Management. Gonzales is repped by Neil Bagg and Julia Buchwald of Don Buchwald & Associates and managed by Sally Piper and Candy Herman.

Santiago Douglas, one of the male leads in the Sundance 2000 best pic winner “Girlfight,” will join Angela Lansbury in the CBS telepic “Murder, She Wrote: A Story to Die For.” “Girlfight” is slated for an Aug. 11 release through Sony’s Screen Gems arm. Douglas is repped by Abrams Artists and Eileen DeNobile of Noble Talent.

Veteran thesp Orson Bean (“Being John Malkovich”) and “Star Trek’s” Michael Dorn have joined the cast of the indie feature “The Gristle.” Bean is repped by Abrams Artists. Dorn is repped by Barry Gross at the Chasen Agency and managed by Steven Jensen at Independent Management Group.

Janel Moloney has signed to become a regular on the NBC skein “The West Wing” and will appear through the rest of this season. Moloney is repped by Abrams Artists and managed by Reid Strathearn and Beth Cannon of Envision Entertainment.

Lacey Kohl, soon to be seen with Jim Carrey in helmer Ron Howard’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” will co-star with James Caan and Patricia Richardson in Franchise Films’ “Viva Las Nowhere.” Kohl is repped by Writers and Artists Agency and Schreck, Rose and Dapello.
