Parker Posey will join Rachel Leigh Cook in Universal’s “Josie and the Pussycats,” taking on the role of a sexy and manipulative recording industry executive and band manager.
The project, planned as an irreverent live-action comedy with original songs, is first greenlit picture from Universal-based Marc Platt Prods., which is producing along with Riverdale Prods., which owns the rights to the comic book series, are producing. Platt is the studio’s former production president.
Harry Elfont and Deoborah Kaplan, who directed the teen comedy “Can’t Hardly Wait,” are directing and writing the project. Members of the all-female rock group other than Cook have not yet been cast.
