As part of its salute to cinema, the New York Foundation of the Arts will honor Barbara Kopple (“Wild Man Blues”) and HBO for their commitment to independent film at NYFA’s Champions of the Arts Awards Benefit 2000.
“Barbara and HBO represent commitment to documentary film and to independent film. While NYFA recognizes all artists in all disciplines, it’s a real honor to recognize what both are doing,” said Ted Berger, executive director of NYFA.
Kopple’s 1991 Academy Award-winning docu “American Dream” was sponsored by NYFA.
Lee Grant will present the award to Kopple, who’s currently working on “My Generation,” chronicling the Woodstock legacy.
As for HBO, exec VP of original programming Sheila Nevins will accept the award honoring the cabler’s reality programming.
