New Line set to snap up ‘Shudder’

Studio execs Hickel, Striegel will oversee production

New Line Cinema is in final negotiations to purchase the spec script “Shudder,” penned by tyro scribes Matthew Odgers and David Markus.

Zide/Perry Entertainment will produce under the firm’s first-look deal with New Line. Writers will be paid low- against mid-six figures.

“Shudder” follows a photo-journalist who’s acclaimed for his chilling images of death and war and becomes haunted by the ghosts of the victims whose misery he has chronicled and exploited.

New Line director of development Bryan Hickel and creative exec Stephanie Striegel will oversee the project.

Managers Darby Parker and Jen Frankel brought the project to Hickel on behalf of Zide/Perry.

Scribes are managed by Parker and Zide at Zide/Perry and attorney Jeff Frankel of Colden, McKuin and Frankel. David Alper, New Line’s exec veep of business affairs, negotiated the deal on behalf of the company.
