Ice Cube to star; Dark to helm
New Line Cinema will provide a home for Darryl Quarles’ spec script “Stray Dawgz,” which comes with a commitment for Ice Cube to star and musicvideo director Gregory Dark to helm.
New Line executives Claire Rudnick Polstein, Donna Langley and Matt Moore will oversee the project on behalf of the company.
Project had been developed at the Firm by Aaron Ray in conjunction with Quarles, then brought to New Line. Deal includes a commitment for a soundtrack, which the Firm will produce.
Pic’s producers are the Firm’s Aaron Ray and Cubevision’s Matt Alvarez. Exec producers are Ice Cube and Quarles.
Story centers on a parolee who discovers that he is the ancestor of a line of werewolf hunters. He is forced to save his sister, and all of the San Francisco Bay Area, from a new breed of werewolf that is threatening to take over the city.
Ice Cube recently starred in Warner Bros.’ “Three Kings” as well as New Line’s “Next Friday.” Next up for the rap star-actor-producer is a summer arena tour with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Ice Cube will act in John Carpenter’s “Ghost of Mars” and then segue to “Stray Dawgz” in the fall.
The Firm most recently produced 20th Century Fox’s “Big Mama’s House.” Also in development are such projects as “The Pimp,” set up at Fine Line with Joel Simon and Quincy Jones producing with the Firm; and “Shadow Man” at New Line, with the Firm, Cubevision and Barry Levine producing.
Ice Cube, Quarles and Dark are all managed by the Firm. Ice Cube’s agent house is CAA, Quarles’ is UTA and Dark’s is Paradigm.
