Melbourne fest names Hewison

Resume includes revised French Film Festival

SYDNEY — James Hewison has been appointed executive director of the Melbourne Intl. Film Festival for a three-year term.

Marketing manager for the state of Victoria at pubcaster ABC, Hewison has worked with arthouse exhibitor Palace Cinemas and played a key role in re-establishing the French Film Festival in Melbourne.

Hewison replaces Sandra Sdraulig, who made Melbourne into the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest fest during her four year term. Event’s 49th edition in July increased admissions by 40% to 140,000.
