Tim Robbins has joined the cast of Good Machine’s “Human Nature,” the film written by “Being John Malkovich” scribe Charlie Kaufman and to be helmed by Michel Gondry.
Pic will be produced by Good Machine partner Ted Hope, along with Anthony Bregman, Kaufman and “Malkovich” helmer Spike Jonze. Patricia Arquette, Rhys Ifans and Miranda Otto co-star.
“Human Nature” is a comedy about a woman plagued by an uncommon hormonal malady — she is covered in body hair; a scientist obsessed with saving the world by teaching table manners to mice; and a French lab assistant who is not as perfect as he may seem. All three have designs on a young man who was raised in the wild as an ape.
Le Studio Canal Plus is co-financing the film and handling its international sales. On behalf of Le Studio, Good Machine Intl. is handling U.S. sales, along with UTA.
Robbins, who recently co-starred in Disney’s “Mission to Mars,” wrote and directed “Cradle Will Rock,” which preemed at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. He also wrote and directed the award-winning “Dead Man Walking.”
Upcoming Le Studio pics include John Waters’ “Cecil B. Demented” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Weight of Water.”
Upcoming Good Machine pics include Jenniphr Goodman’s “The Tao of Steve,” to be released by Sony Pictures Classics in August, and Ang Lee’s likely Cannes entry “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” also for SPC.
