Linney drawn to ‘Moth’

Pic co-stars Gere with Pellington at helm

Fresh off her critically acclaimed turn in Kenneth Lonergan’s “You Can Count on Me,” Laura Linney is in final negotiations to co-star with Richard Gere in Lakeshore and Sony’s “The Mothman Prophecies.”

Pic is expected to begin production in January, with Mark Pellington (“Arlington Road”) helming. Sony will distribute domestically via its specialty label, Screen Gems; Lakeshore will handle international distribution.

Linney is currently in Toronto playing the lead in Showtime’s “Black Iris,” a pic that co-stars Gena Rowlands and is directed by Daniel Petrie Sr. and produced by Marshall Persinger, Kevin Goetz and Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi.

“Mothman” tells the story of a reporter, to be played by Gere, who is drawn to a small West Virginia town to investigate a series of strange events, including psychic visions and the appearance of bizarre entities.

Linney is repped by ICM and managed by AMG.
