Japanese toon fest to unspool

The eighth biannual Intl. Animation Festival in Japan, unspooling in Hiroshima Aug. 24-28, will showcase 58 animated works selected out of 1,231 entries from 59 countries and territories.

A grand prize and Hiroshima prize, both worth 1 million yen ($9,200) and a debut prize ($4,600) will be bestowed; winners will be chosen by a five-person jury headed by Russian animator Fedor Khitruk.
