TOKYO — Japanese distrib Gaga Communications unveiled Thursday the slate of 34 pics it will release in Japan in the coming business year, with the Julia Roberts/ Brad Pitt movie “The Mexican” topping the list.
Other big names for the Gaga-Humax distribution label include “Hannibal,” “Rules of Engagement” and “Driven.”
New Line has struck deals with Gaga for five films to be distributed by the company within the 2000-01 business year; Warners and Universal struck deals for three pics each.
Gaga did well last year with “Notting Hill” and “The Green Mile,” which is currently unspooling in Japanese theaters. Thanks to the record number of films it will distribute, the company is expected to have a record year for movie rentals.
