AMSTERDAM — “Health Farm,” Swedish filmer Lasse Aberg’s latest spoof on society, is racking up record box office receipts in Sweden.
Between Dec. 25, when it premiered, and this past Monday, “Health Farm” brought in over 400,000 admissions and rung up receipts of some SEK 27.7 million ($3.3 million). On Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 alone, the pic posted admissions of 135,851 and $1.1 million in receipts, respectively, setting an all-time opening record in Sweden.
The film is the fifth in a line of pics featuring the Jacques Tati-like Stig Helmer, a shy guy who somehow always ends up on top. Fourth in the series “The Accidental Golfer” was released in 1991 and also racked up record admissions at that time.
“Health Farm” takes potshots at the health food and new-age industry when Helmer ends up at a fat farm trying to trim his aging body. Each of the films has been directed by Aberg and co-produced by Viking Film, Svensk Filmindustri and Smart Egg Pictures. Pic is scripted by Aberg and Bosse Jonson.
