NEW YORK — Gene Hackman has agreed to star in the MGM comedy “Breakers,” joining Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jason Lee in the John Davis-produced film.
Pic centers on mother and daughter con artists who use their feminine wiles to hook and then blackmail the men in their lives. Hackman will play a wealthy man targeted by the duo. David Mirkin (“Get a Life”) will direct the film; he had a hand in shaping the script along with scribes Stephen Mazur and Paul Guay.
Hackman, who just wrapped the Warner Bros. comedy “The Replacements,” opposite Keanu Reeves, is repped by CAA.
Landing the Oscar-winning actor is a coup for MGM, which has been building a promising slate of star-driven films that includes the Barry Levinson-directed “Outlaws,” with Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett, and “Wind Talkers,” the John Woo-directed drama to star Nicolas Cage.
