‘Gabriela’ gets to the Point

Francillion starts prod'n/distrib firm

Vincent Francillon has launched independent production and distribution company Power Point Films with the acquisition of Latino-themed romance “Gabriela.” A Valentine’s Day 2001 release is planned.

Power Point is bankrolled by a joint venture of private investors in Germany, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Outfit plans to release one to two films annually.

Written and directed by Vincent Jay Miller, “Gabriela” is a love story set against the backdrop of a mental health clinic. Pic stars Seidy Lopez (“Selena”) and Jamie Gomez (“Crimson Tide”).

The Premiere Weekend Club, Gil Botello’s nonprofit Los Angeles-based grassroots promotional outfit, has been brought on board to handle the film’s marketing.

Power Point plans to release “Gabriela” on some 100 screens, focusing on markets in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Texas and Florida.
