Fine Line Features has paid north of $3 million for North American rights to the StudioCanal-Good Machine co-production “Human Nature,” now shooting in Los Angeles.
Written by Charlie Kaufman (“Being John Malkovich”) and directed by video helmer Michel Gondry in his feature debut, the film stars Patricia Arquette, Tim Robbins, Rhys Ifans and Miranda Otto.
“Human Nature” is an unconventional comedy about a woman plagued by body hair, a scientist obsessed with saving the world by teaching mice table manners and a seemingly perfect French lab assistant, all of whom have designs on a young man who was raised in the wild as an ape.
Good Machine partner Ted Hope, Anthony Bregman, Kaufman and “Malkovich” helmer Spike Jonze are producing the pic.
David Linde’s Good Machine Intl. and UTA closed the North American sale on behalf of StudioCanal, which handles the film’s international sales. UTA also reps Kaufman, Gondry and Otto.
The Fine Line co-production of the Lars von Trier musical “Dancer in the Dark” won the Palme d’Or and the best actress award for Bjork at the Cannes Film Festival.
