Euro awards to go global

Film kudos to be held in France, televised internationally

The 2000 European Film Awards, the Berlin-based Euro Film Acad’s annual big event, will be held Dec. 2 in Paris and televised internationally.

This year’s ceremony, produced by DDA Prods., will be co-sponsored by Canal Plus, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Ministry of Culture, the French Ministry of European Affairs and the National Center of Cinematography (Centre National de la Cinematographie, or CNC).

“Bringing the awards to France, a cornerstone of cinema in Europe, marks another step forward in the creation of a major television and multimedia event that will help to attract new audiences to European films outside their national borders,” said Humbert Balsan, the academy’s deputy chairman.

The awards are part of an industry-focused weekend of panel discussions, workshops and the annual European Film Academy lecture.
