Errant ‘Dog’ to retrieve auds

Artisan offering corrective free screening

Artisan Entertainment is set to make good — not to mention good publicity — on a laboratory error that eliminated key subtitles from some Gotham prints of Jim Jarmusch’s “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.”

Auds who saw the incorrect version, which lacked subtitles for the mostly English-lingo pic’s French dialogue — the understanding of which is essential to one of the film’s running jokes — will be treated to a free screening of the correct print March 25. To get into the screening, patrons must appear at the Village Voice offices after Wednesday and establish that they’ve seen the incorrect version by answering three mystery questions about the film.

Released exclusively in New York on March 3, “Ghost Dog” picked up $425,000 in expanded release over the weekend, bringing its overall gross to $843,000.
