Miramax’s genre arm Dimension Films has become so obsessed with the thriller pitch “Obsessed,” delivered by scribe Don McLennan, that it has scooped the story off the market.
Nicholas Osborne and Jeffrey Zarnow of O/Z Films are attached to produce.
“This is a smart, sophisticated thriller that fits in perfectly with what we are doing at Dimension,” Miramax co-chairman Bob Weinstein said.
“I am excited to be working with a company that embraces the spirit of independence and originality,” McLennan said. “I hope my script will simultaneously scare and surprise.”
To be written in the vein of “Fatal Attraction” and “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” “Obsessed” follows the nightmarelike ride of a college professor and his family when a supernatural force invades their home after he has an affair with one of his students.
Miramax’s Robbie Brenner and Dimension’s Ken Park brought the pitch into the company.
Park and Dimension senior veep Andrew Rona will oversee the project, reporting to Dimension prexy Cary Granat.
Deals were negotiated for Dimension by Andrew Gumpert, senior veep of business and legal affairs. David Warden of Warden, White and Associates repped McLennan; David Feldman of Bloom, Hergott, Cook, Diemer & Klein repped O/Z.
