'Nameless,' 'Darkness' set to scare auds
Continuing a rush of U.S. pickups at the tail end of the London Screenings, Dimension Films has acquired U.S. rights to Spanish horror maven Jaume Balaguero’s first pic, the Spanish-lingo “The Nameless” (Los Sin Nombre).
Deal forms one half of a double pickup, packaged with Dimension’s acquisition, also from Spain’s Filmax Intl., of all English-speaking territory rights on Balaguero’s upcoming English-language pic, “Darkness.”
Produced by the Filmax Group, a burgeoning Spanish mini-major, “Nameless” and “Darkness” are psychological horror pics. Latter will be shot on location in Spain early next year.
London was abuzz Friday with rumors that other pics in Filmax’s Fantastic Factory horror franchise were also attracting strong distrib interest Stateside.
Dimension was repped by Miramax business affairs and international operations veep Stuart Ford and Miramax U.K. acquisitions and co-production senior veep Teresa Moneo. Filmax and Balaguero were repped by Navas, Filmax prexy Carlos Fernandez and attorney Hugo Ecija.
