Dimension Films has acquired “Totally Awesome,” a comedy pitch by writing duo Neal Brennan (“Half Baked”) and Michael Schur (“Saturday Night Live”).
Veep of production and development Peter Schwerin and director of production and development Jesse Berdinka will oversee the project, brought to the company by David Miner.
Inspired by such 1980s films as “Sixteen Candles,” “The Karate Kid” and “Dirty Dancing,” “Totally Awesome” tells a satirical tale of three kids facing a variety of obstacles at a new school after their family relocates so their father can keep his job. Brennan and Schur will develop the pitch with Miner and Michael Rotenberg of 3 Arts Entertainment as producers.
“This is a really original pitch from two incredibly talented writers,” said Dimension topper Bob Weinstein. “We look forward to developing a strong working relationship with Neal and Michael.”
‘Oldest’ pitch sold
The Brennan/Schur duo recently sold their comedy pitch “The Oldest Man in the World” to MTV Films and Paramount. Brennan co-wrote the comedy “Half Baked” with Dave Chappelle. Schur, once prexy of the Harvard Lampoon, recently completed his third year writing for “Saturday Night Live.”
