Six nominees announced for helmer achievement

The Directors Guild of America has announced six nominees for directorial achievement in documentaries, with every honoree a first-time selection.

Nominees are: Barry W. Blaustein for “Beyond the Mat”; Marc Levin, “Thug Life in D.C.”; Errol Morris, “Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred Leuchter Jr.”; Brett Morgen and Nannette Burstein, “On the Ropes”; and Gary Weimberg, “The Double Life of Ernesto Gomez-Gomez.”

“Ropes” was the only picture among the five to receive an Academy Award nomination in the docu feature category. Morgen and Burstein also served as producers on the project.

The 52nd annual DGA Awards Dinner will take place March 11 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
