Pic expected to start prod'n before potential strikes
Tom Dey (“Shanghai Noon”) has committed to direct “Showtime” for Warner Bros., with Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy still in talks to star (Daily Variety, Dec. 7).
Pic is expected to go into production prior to next year’s potential strikes.
“Showtime” has been developed and will be produced by Village Roadshow Pictures with Jorge Saralegui’s Material. Village Roadshow will co-finance with Warner Bros.
Story centers on a cop forced to team up with a showboating rookie as the star of a new reality-based TV show designed to boost the image of a big city police department.
Project reteams Dey with scribes Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, who rewrote Keith Sharon’s “Showtime” script and also penned “Shanghai Noon.”
