Destination Films has lined up a busy summer production slate with the thriller “The Wheelman” and a greenlight for the Neal Moritz-produced “Slackers,” which will be directed by Dewey Nicks.
“Wheelman,” which is slated to begin production this summer, will star Scott Speedman (“Felicity,” “Duets”) in a thriller about a prodigy getaway driver. Dwight Little (“Murder at 1600”) will direct from a script by Frank Mugavero. Brian Koppelman and David Levien (“Rounders,” “Knockaround Guys”) are working on a production polish.
Production veepee Mark Morgan brought “The Wheelman” to Destination and will oversee the project.
“Slackers” director Nicks made his career as a fashion photographer and a commercial and music video director. “Slackers,” written by first-time scribe David Steinberg, follows three college students who are experts at scamming the system. When the school geek uncovers their deception, he blackmails them to win over the school’s most popular girl.
Erik Feig produces with Moritz; principal photography will begin May 24.
Destination veep of production Mark Morgan will oversee the project’s development.
Nicks was repped by ICM and lawyer Warren Dern at Nelson, Guggenheim, Levine & Felker. He is managed by Jonathan Brandstein at MBST Entertainment.
Destination recently released “Drowning Mona,” starring Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, Neve Campbell and Jamie Lee Curtis, and “Eye of the Beholder,” starring Ashley Judd and Ewan McGregor.
