Willem Dafoe is in final negotiations to topline London-based Renaissance Films’ indie “Morality Play.”
“Morality” will be helmed by Paul McGuigan, director of “The Acid House” and “Gangster No. 1.”
Lensing on the pic, co-produced by Kanzeman Sa, is expected to begin in October in the U.K. and Spain.
“Morality Play” concerns a priest on the lam who takes up with a traveling band of actors. Shortly after arriving in a town, they discover a murder has a occurred and set about to solving it by re-creating the crime in a play. Dafoe would portray the leader of the troupe of thesps.
Though he appears in major studio fare like “Platoon” and “Speed 2,” the thesp is a frequent indie actor. He toplines the upcoming Lions Gate pic, “Shadow of the Vampire,” which will be unspooling at the Toronto Film Fest, and appears in “The Edges of the Lord” with Haley Joel Osment.
Dafoe is repped by the William Morris Agency in North America and Charles Finch in London. Dafoe is managed by Phyllis Carlyle.
