Crudup goes ‘Gray’ for Armstrong pic

World Brief

Billy Crudup, co-star of Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous,” has signed to play opposite Cate Blanchett in Gillian Armstrong’s “Charlotte Gray.”

The WWII-set love story is an Eccose Films production for the U.K.’s FilmFour and Warner Bros. Universal Pictures has acquired the pic for several international territories.

Jeremy Brock (“Mrs. Brown”) wrote the script based on Sebastian Faulks’ novel about a Scottish woman who joins the French Resistance in order to rescue her missing lover, a pilot who has been shot down behind enemy lines.

Lensing on the pic, produced by Sarah Curtis and Eccose boss Douglas Rae, is due to start in January.
