Costumer Roth honored

Designer awarded Sharaff trophy

Three-time Oscar-nommed costume designer Ann Roth (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”) will receive the Theater Development Fund’s Irene Sharaff lifetime achievement in costume design award at a reception tonight in Manhattan.

Among Roth’s 80-odd film credits are “The English Patient,” for which she won an Oscar in 1997,, “The Mambo Kings,” “Klute” and “Midnight Cowboy.” Her Broadway credits amount to some 80 shows, and she’s garnered three Tony noms.

Other award winners this year are Robert Perdziola (young master award for most promising newcomer); Broadway milliner Woody Shelp (artisan award); and the late Lucina Ballard (posthumous award), who won the first-ever costume design Tony in 1947.

Event, to be held at the New York Marriott Marquis, is presented through the TDF Costume Collection.
