Columbia Pictures has tapped scribe Richard Hatem (“Under Siege 2”) to adapt the Nelson DeMille novel “Plum Island” for producer Mace Neufeld.
Columbia purchased the novel as part of Neufeld’s recently announced first-look deal with the studio.
Columbia’s exec veep, Amy Baer, will oversee the project for the studio, Kel Symons for Neufeld.
“Plum Island” is the story of a down-and-out New York cop who during a local murder investigation gets caught up in a search for the lost treasure of Captain Kidd.
Hatem’s spec “The Mothman Prophecies” is in development at Lakeshore with Richard Gere attached to star. He recently completed “This Body” for director George Armitage and producer David Friendly at Fox 2000.
Hatem is repped by UTA, AMG and attorney Karl Austen.
