Academy Award winner James Coburn has signed to star opposite Rob Lowe in “Proximity” for Joel Silver’s Zinc Pictures.
“Proximity,” to be directed by Scott Ziehl (“Broken Vessels”), is a darker take on “The Fugitive” in which a prisoner (Lowe) must break out of jail in order to dodge a hit placed on him by a sinister organization. Coburn will play the leader of the covert operation.
The low-budget division of Silver Pictures, Zinc is devoted to action thrillers and action comedies budgeted at $5 million-$10 million and plans to release two pics annually. Titles on the Zinc slate have a theatrical release window but are otherwise slated to debut on HBO. Zinc’s day-to-day operations are overseen by Silver chief financial officer Steve Richards and senior veep of production Dan Cracchiolo.
Budgeted at $6 million, “Proximity” will be produced by Silver, with Richards and Cracchiolo taking exec producing credits. Shooting will begin in June in Cleveland.
Coburn is repped by CAA and manager Hillard Elkins at Elkins Entertainment.
