Deal joins growing number of German companies buying into U.S. market

CANNES — Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s Centropolis Entertainment’s search for German equity appears to be getting a step closer with German post-production house Das Werk poised to buy a stake, sources say.

The deal would bring under one roof Wim Wenders and Emmerich, two of Germany’s hottest L.A.-based talents. Last year, Das Werk merged with Wenders and Ulrich Felsberg’s production outfit, Road Movies, which is one of a number of Das Werk’s in-house production outfits.

German infiltration

Pact would add Das Werk to the growing list of German companies buying into the U.S. market. It would be Das Werk’s first domestic pact, giving it a U.S. production base and complementing Das Werk’s own pan-European post-production stronghold through Centropolis’ own post facilities, Centropolis Effects.

Das Werk is part of a pan-European post-production, MAX, which brings together several partners around Europe.

The Sony-based Centropolis recently released the Mel Gibson starrer “The Patriot.” Company is working on an untitled project starring Kevin Spacey.
