‘Bridge’ raises Nashville fest

Pic to open 31st annual indie film event

Michael Sergio’s “Under Hellgate Bridge,” starring Jonathan LaPaglia (UPN’s “Seven Days”), and Dominic Chianese and Vincent Pastore (both of “The Sopranos”), will open the 31st annual Nashville Independent Film Festival.

Presented by Regal Cinemas, event will unspool from Wednesday to Sunday at the Regal Green Hills 16.

Closing with Linda Yellen’s “The Simian Line,” which stars Tyne Daly, Lynn Redgrave and William Hurt, fest will unspool 34 world premieres including documentary “The Ballad of Ramblin’ Jack,” John Hancock’s “A Piece of Eden” and Don Most’s ‘The Last Best Sunday.”

Along with the screenings, NIFF will offer over 15 workshops with speakers such as James Cromwell (“Babe”) and Frank Vincent (“Raging Bull”).

“Under Hellgate Bridge,” shown at last year’s Independent Feature Film Market and premiered at the Avignon/New York Film Festival, was recently acquired by IFM Film Associates.

New to the fest this year, the winner of this year’s Regal Cinemas-Nashville Independent Film Festival Dream Maker Award will be given a one-week theatrical run in Los Angeles County at a Regal Cinema theater, qualifying it for the Academy Awards.
