Comedian to play sidekick in search of recapturing monkey
Comedian-singer Jack Black (“High Fidelity”) has joined Mike Myers in Universal/Imagine’s comedy “Dieter,” to be directed by Bo Welch and produced by Brian Grazer.
Black, who received praise for his acting and singing in “High Fidelity,” will portray the best friend and sidekick to Myers’ title character. The plot revolves around Dieter’s attempts to recapture his kidnapped monkey.
Black is expected to receive at least $1 million for “Dieter.” The role marks the second major deal this year for Black following his $1 million signing for the lead in Columbia’s “Saving Silverman,” a project directed by Dennis Dugan involving friends who hatch a plot to prevent their buddy from marrying the wrong woman.
Black has played character roles in “The Jackal,” “Enemy of the State” and “Cradle Will Rock.” He is one half of the rap duo Tenacious D, which recently signed a deal with Epic Records.
Black is repped by UTA and attorney Warren Dern of Nelson, Guggenheim, Felker and Levine.
