Fresh off her role as Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening’s daughter Jane in the five-time Academy Award-winning “American Beauty,” Thora Birch has inked a seven-figure deal to star in Granada Films’ “The Hole.”
Granada plans to put the pic into production in June in the U.K. Nick Hamm (“Martha Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence”) will direct; producers are Pippa Cross of Granada Film, Lisa Bryer of Cowboy Films and Jeremy Bolt.
Set in a British private school, pic concerns four students whose lives are changed forever during a three-day period without parental supervision, when things go wrong down “the hole.”
With MGM, Granada is currently co-financing “Ghost World,” also starring Birch; John Malkovich’s production shingle, Mr. Mudd, is producing that pic.
Birch, a presenter at this year’s Oscars, has been nominated as best supporting actress at the BAFTA Awards to be held in London on April 18.
Birch’s deal was negotiated by her manager/father Jack Birch and attorney Brad Small at Erickson & Halloran.
