SYDNEY — “Double Jeopardy” helmer Bruce Beresford is combining food and opera in his next project with Australia’s Total Film & TV and America’s Bravo.
Beresford is executive producing “Aria & Pasta,” an eight-part, half-hour series with Total’s Phil Gerlach, with whom he collaborated last year on Imax film “Sydney — Story of a City.”
Set to start production this month, the program spotlights high-profile opera singers and then shows them preparing their favorite pasta dishes. Talent includes Denyce Graves, Bryn Terfel, Cecilia Bartali, Frederica von Stade and Derek Lee Ragin; shooting locations will include Italy, Germany and the U.K.
Beresford will direct two or three episodes of the program, with “Breaker Morant” thesp Lewis Fitz-Gerald helming the rest. Producers are Jane Duncan and former opera singer Beverley Bergan, who will also host the show. Bravo has rights to the Americas, while the show will air in Oz on pubcaster SBS-TV and on cable’s XYZ Entertainment.
Meantime, Paramount TV and Icon Entertainment are reportedly set to shoot a long-running cop series called “Figaro’s Opera” in Sydney next year.
