BAM plans Coen bros., Altman retros

'Raising,' 'MASH' part of film screenings

The BAMcinematek program at BAM Rose Cinemas will unspool two retrospectives starting in June; the Complete Coen Brothers will begin June 8 and Robert Altman: Films of the ’70s will kick off June 12.

“Raising Arizona,” “Barton Fink” and “Fargo” will be among seven films screening during the Coen brothers retro, running Thursdays and Fridays through July 28. A newly restored print of the director’s cut of “Blood Simple” will premiere June 30.

A 30th anniversary screening of 1970 Oscar winner “MASH” will open the Altman series June 12. Nine pics, including “Nashville” and “Thieves Like Us,” will screen Mondays and Tuesdays through July 11.

Other events upcoming at the Rose Cinemas include Village Voice: Best of the ’90s, an eight-week screening and discussion series with film critics J. Hoberman and Amy Taubin running June 10-July 22; and a Q&A session with Arthur Penn after a May 14 screening of “Bonnie and Clyde.”
