NEW YORK — Christian Bale may be best known these days for his turns as a psychotic killer in “Shaft” and “American Psycho,” but he’s poised for a spiritual conversion.
The British thesp has landed the lead in Dimension’s “Librium,” a futuristic thriller about a fascist world in which emotions are forbidden. Bale plays a law enforcement agent who rebels against the system and eventually rises to overthrow it.
Emily Watson and Taye Diggs will star opposite Bale in the pic, written and to be directed by Kurt Wimmer (“The Thomas Crown Affair”), with principal photography set to begin in Berlin in the fall. Producers are Jan De Bont and Lucas Foster of Blue Tulip Prods.
Bale was repped by CAA. Brian Burkin, Dimension senior veep of business and legal affairs, repped the studio.
