Alcon Prods. is in final negotiations to preemptively purchase the action pitch “Bait” from scribe Christian Darren, based on the novel by Kenneth Abel, for mid-six figures.
Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove of Alcon Prods. are in negotiations to produce along with Artist Production Group (APG). Project will be overseen by APG prexy of production Cathy Schulman as well as exec Sean O’Keefe.
Story centers on an ex-cop who struggles to claw his way through a web of deceit involving a corrupt police squad, big city government and the mob.
Last year, Scott Free Prods. purchased Darren’s spec “Six Bullets From Now” using its discretionary fund. His pitch “Count Three and Pray,” based on the 1954 Gary Cooper pic “Vera Cruz,” sold to Touchstone, with Ron Shelton attached to helm and Gary Foster producing. Darren’s “Payday,” another spec, went to Jon Peters and Warner Bros.
Darren’s deal was negotiated by agent Debbie Deuble of Don Buchwald & Associates, manager Ilan Breil of LMRK and attorney Mitch Smelkinson of Stone, Meyer & Genow.
AMG/Renaissance’s Joel Gotler negotiated the book deal on behalf of the author Abel.
