Warner rings Bell for tech post

Warner Bros. Technical Operations has tapped Alan Bell senior veep of technology. He will lead a team at the studio that will oversee the development and integration of new technologies, including the adoption of digital rights management tools, to facilitate the distribution of digital media across various platforms.

Bell will report to Chris Cookson, exec veep and chief technology officer at Warner Bros. “Alan’s vision for and invaluable leadership in the practical application of technologies has been critical to the growth of the digital distribution of entertainment products,” Cookson said.

Bell most recently spent 18 years at IBM, serving in the company’s research division as director of digital media standards and commercialization. Among his duties, Bell specialized in copy protection technologies.

Before IBM, Bell served as senior scientist for Exxon’s central research laboratory and as a member of the technical staff at the RCA/David Sarnoff Research Center.
