Tooncaster Mondo mines mucho coin reups for 'God'

Animation Netcaster Mondo Media is expected to announce today that it has secured $20 million in a second round of financing from new-media players Macromedia and Foundation Capital.

Separately, Time Warner hub has renewed its option for 17 additional episodes of Mondo’s “The God & Devil Show,” effective immediately.

“God & Devil,” an animated weekly talkshow that launched on Entertaindom in September, features celebrity guests such as Keith Richards, Bill Gates and Chris Rock joining hosts God and the devil. Viewers determine whether they’re sent to heaven or hell.

“We’re ecstatic with audience reaction,” said Jim Banister, exec VP and chief development officer at Entertaindom. “‘The God & Devil Show’ continues to build an ever-increasing fan base and has been one of the top shows at Entertaindom from day one.”

Entertaindom also recently ordered additional 3-D animated episodes from Pulse Entertainment, calling for 52 episodes for three series per year, ranging from 30 seconds to three minutes per show, with a new episode bowing each week.

San Francisco-based Mondo has also announced it is syndicating its animated programming to portal Alta Vista, Excite@Home, AtomFilms and the Washington Post.

The goal is to build a library of syndicated shows that enable it to collect revenues from licensing, advertising, e-commerce, foreign language rights, television and direct-to-video production.

Other investors included in the new round include Sofinnova Ventures, Red Rock Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank and Phoenix Growth Capital. Mondo is hoping to use the funding to acquire additional shows or entice A-list artists to produce content for the site.
