Stan Lee conquers Conan with stock offer

Cyberbiz Brief

Stan Lee Media has beefed up its comicbook-themed portfolio, acquiring the rights to Conan the Barbarian from Conan Properties Inc. for $4.3 million in stock.

Stan Lee, who created the Internet-based multimedia, marketing and licensing shop, is looking to turn the sword-wielding character into an online Web series, the way he recently transformed the Backstreet Boys into online animated superheroes.

Lee, the man behind Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk and the X-Men, is also developing a cartoon version of Gene Roddenberry’s “Starship” and a Webisodic series about futuristic cops, appropriately called “Cops.”

Shares of Stan Lee Media were up $0.38 to close Wednesday at $10.50, a gain of nearly 4%.
