Music sales tracking company SoundScan and digital transaction monitoring firm Reciprocal have inked a deal to measure sales of downloadable digital music. Agreement reps SoundScan’s first foray into monitoring and measuring downloadable music.
Starting this month, Reciprocal will report single sale download purchases to SoundScan. When consumers purchase secure digital tracks from participating Web sites, Reciprocal’s transaction-clearing services will send a permit to the consumer’s computer that allows that person to play the music file. SoundScan will include this info in its weekly national sales reports.
