Sony, NTT contented

World Brief

Sony will provide video and game content for a fiber-optic network from Japan’s largest telecom carrier, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp., with a trial run starting in a few months.

Service will allow Sony PlayStation2 videogame console users to connect to the NTT fiber-optic network to download pics, receive other video services and play games over the network.

The cooperation is aimed at competing against cable TV operators in the video-on-demand sector and positioning Sony for delivering content in the broadband era.
