MIAMI — Spanish-lingo Internet portal Yupi.com is partnering with Viacom’s Showtime Networks to bring the latter’s original online programming to Spanish-speaking auds.
“WhirlGirl,” an animated series about the adventures of a 21st century freedom fighter in a virtual universe, will bow first.
The weekly series was developed by Visionary Media and began airing on the Sho.com site in February 1999. New original episodes are posted on con Fridays at 1 p.m. EST.
As of March 3, they will be posted simultaneously in Spanish and English on the Yupi.com and Sho.com sites. Archived episodes will also be available in Spanish.
Yupi and Showtime plan to add other Spanish-lingo content and features within a few months.
Yupi is a Spanish-lingo portal based out of Miami targeting the Latin American, U.S. Hispanic and Spanish markets. It has offices in L.A., Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Spain. Sony Corp. of America and its Sony Music and Sony Pictures Entertainment divisions own stakes.
