Deal involves investment, advertising time

NEW YORK — NBC has acquired an equity stake in Space.com, the Web site headed by former CNNfn topper Lou Dobbs.

Under the terms of the deal, NBC will provide a combination of cash investment and advertising time across the NBC television network, NBC’s 13 O&Os and NBC cable properties in exchange for a minority equity stake in the space-themed content provider.

The agreement also gives NBC distribution rights to Space.com content. NBC News will use Space.com as the preferred Internet provider of space information. In addition, the two companies will pursue further strategic business opportunities relating to promotions, marketing and distribution.
