Sometimes talking about the weather isn’t so simple.
CNN.com’s weather site recently started listing Jerusalem as a city in Israel — but with this caveat: “The status of Jerusalem, the seat of Israeli government, is the most contentious issue in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Palestinian and Arab leaders consider part of Jerusalem the capital of the prospective Palestinian state.”
The Anti-Defamation League commended CNN.com’s returning Jerusalem to the world weather page — previously it had been a standalone city without a country designation — but called the explanation “gratuitous.”
“The conditions and forecast, whether hot or cold or sunny or rainy, do not warrant political commentary,” said Abraham Foxman, national director of the ADL.
